Two new resources for childrens budgeting
As part of the Welsh Government’s commitment to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), Children and Young people’s Budgeting has been identified as a priority within ‘Getting it Right’. This is our UNCRC Action Plan for Wales which is a key component in taking forward our progress towards the full realisation of the UNCRC in Wales.
As part of this commitment, we have developed two toolkits. One of these focuses on financial capability. This brings together learning activities that can help all young people aged 11 to 19 to gain better control of their personal finances. The other is around participatory budgeting.
This represents an opportunity for local authorities and their partners to involve young people in making decisions about how to spend local budgets that affect them.
The Welsh Government feel very strongly that children and young people should be given the opportunities to be involved in making budgetary decisions on issues that affect them and that we give them the tools and knowledge to be able to do this effectively.
