Healthy Schools
Health promoting schools are encouraged in Wales by the Welsh Network of Healthy School Schemes (WNHSS). WNHSS encourages the development of local healthy school schemes within a common national framework. Local Healthy Schools Schemes encourage schools to ensure that pupils are involved in the planning and implementation of healthy school actions. It is suggested that schools consult with pupils through their elected school council or other means, and plan pupil participation into every aspect of the work.
Actions taken by health promoting schools depend on the wants and needs of pupils which emerge through the consultation process, and pupils are instrumental in planning and delivering those actions.
Some examples are
- fruit tuck shops run by pupils
- playground buddy schemes
- school nutrition action groups
