Many Voices, One Wales
‘Many Voices, One Wales’ a DVD for schools on meeting the needs of pupils from minority ethnic backgrounds in Wales
Unlocking every child’s potential is at the heart of the Welsh Assembly Government’s strategy for education. Central to this is a commitment to making Wales a country with an inclusive approach to education and learning. We are committed to ensuring that pupils from all ethnic backgrounds enjoy equal opportunities to fulfil their potential in every aspect of school life.
The School Effectiveness Framework places children and young people’s improved learning and well-being at the centre of everything that the Welsh education community should be doing. It is underpinned by the principle of equality and commits everyone who is involved in the education system to work together to secure the best learner outcomes for every learner in every setting.
‘Many Voices, One Wales’ draws together examples of good practice in supporting minority ethnic pupils from a variety of school settings across Wales. It is intended as a resource for practitioners, containing practical guidance for implementing effective techniques and promoting high standards of provision for the education of minority ethnic pupils.
The DVD shows the professionalism and commitment of Ethnic Minority Achievement Services and their teaching colleagues across Wales. The intention is that this resource will be a valuable toolkit for promoting school effectiveness through training, personal development and collaborative working with specialist staff and others.
The full length DVD covers the following areas: Arrival and Induction; Assessment; Identification of Special Educational Needs; Working Collaboratively; Multilingual Support, First/Home Language; Welsh Medium Settings; Mentoring and Listening to Children and Young People.
The full DVD is quite long at one and a half hours but individual ‘chapters’ can be selected for viewing.
