Young People’s Training Activities
These training activities have been designed and piloted with and for young people to help them to:
- Understand about children and young people’s rights and how they affect all children and young people;
- Understand what participation is, why it’s important and how it can help them to take part in making their school community more effective;
- Share their knowledge and understanding with other pupils in their school;
- Gain in confidence and communication skills; and
- Play a more active role in their school and wider community.
The materials are easy to use and fun, and contain all the necessary resources for running the activities. You can also access a DVD on this page, showing young people leading the activities.
There are twelve activities altogether. The Trainers’ Sheet for each activity is set out in a similar format:
- Theme number (1, 2 or 3);
- Number and Title of the Activity;
- Purpose - what this activity should help young people to do;
- Resources - anything pupils need to run the session;
- Preparation - anything they will need to do or check beforehand;
- Timing - how long is needed to run the activity;
- Participants - what size group this activity is appropriate for, and any instructions about splitting people into groups;
- Outline of Activity;
- Follow-up.
Resource sheets for activities follow the Trainer’s sheet for that activity. These are available in English and in Welsh to encourage use of the two languages. Sometimes pupils will need to download resources such as DVDs, in which case, web-site links are given.
We hope you will enjoy using these activities. Let us know how you get on by e-mailing: childrenandyoungpeoplesrights@wales.gsi.gov.uk
