- Explain we have brought some puppets and are going to play a game with them about Listening and Choosing
Listening… and choosing
- “We are going to talk first about Listening. We use our ears to listen with [hold our ears – let’s all have a go – when I say ‘Listening’ everyone hold their ears”].
- It’s very important that people listen [hold ears] to children. We are going to use the puppets to show you. We are going to ask you if you think children have been listened [hold ears] to in our puppet show. If you think YES go and stand by the Smiley Face. If you think NO go and stand by the Sad Face. Do a practice run with them – do you like orange juice? YES / NO WHY?
Adult puppet and boy puppet (Doctor and child in bed in hospital, happy, looking at each other and talking to each other and facing each other) “This little boy is in bed in a hospital. This is a doctor sitting next to him. Do you think the doctor is listening to the little by? YES / NO WHY?- Two adult puppets and girl puppet (Two adults standing next to each other and talking and facing each other and child next to one of them jumping up and down and trying to get their attention) “ This is a mummy talking to a dentist about the little girl’s teeth. The little girl is next to them. Do you think they are listening to the little girl? YES / NO WHY?
- One adult puppet and one child puppet (Mum and daughter sitting together looking at a colouring book and working on it together) “This little girl is with her mum. They are working on a colouring book. Do you think the mummy is listening to the little girl? YES / NO WHY?
Well done, you all did really well. You were all seeing if the children were being listened to [hold ears] in the puppet shows. You were all choosing whether they were being listened to or not. Some of you chose Yes and some of you chose No. We are going to ask you one more question – do you think people should listen to children YES / NO WHY?- Now we are going to finish with a Listening Game – do you know how to play Simple Simon says….
