THE SOCIAL SERVICES FOR WALES BILL – Let us know what you think NOW!

The Social Service for Wales Bill offers changes that will be felt by many, particularly those children and young and their families that are already in contact with social services.

Social services play an important role in helping children and children and young people who may:

  • have family problems
  • have a disability
  • be in trouble with the police
  • be looked after in care
  • be in danger of being hurt or
  • not be cared for and looked after as they need.

At the heart of the Bill is greater voice and control for all people who use social services so ensure your voice is heard and let us know what you think!

You can see a children and young-people friendly version of the Bill at:
http://wales.gov.uk/docs/dhss/consultation/120312childrenen.pdf

Please do this before 1 June 2012.

THE UNCRC CHILDREN'S SCHEME - HAVE YOUR SAY!

The Children's Scheme is something that the Welsh Government has to produce under the Rights of Children and Young Persons (Wales) Measure 2011. It sets out what the Welsh Government will do to make sure that they pay attention to children’s rights now and in the future.

The Welsh Government wants to hear what you think of the Scheme. Go to: http://wales.gov.uk/consultations/healthsocialcare/scheme/ and have your say.

The closing date for responses is 30 January 2012.

CONSULTATION ON THE COSMETIC PIERCING OF YOUNG PEOPLE

The Welsh Government has published a consultation on the cosmetic piercing of young people and we would welcome your views on the issues being considered.

We are thinking about introducing a new law which will cover the following key areas:

  • The need for a parent or guardian to give their permission (both in writing and through attendance at the piercing appointment) before a young person below a certain age can have a cosmetic piercing (we currently think this should be below 16).
  • A clear age restriction for intimate cosmetic piercings.
  • A standard set of questions which must be asked by the piercer before any cosmetic piercing can be done.
  • The consultation document (and an online response form) is available from the Welsh Government website.

The closing date for responses is 31 January 2012.

LOCAL PARTICIPATION STRATEGIES

The Welsh Government has published guidance saying how children and young people should be involved in planning and decision-making in their local area.

Let us know what you think of the guidance and how it could be improved!

Consultation: Local participation strategies 0-25 (external link)

The closing date for responses is 23 January 2012.
