Our Rights Our Story
On Tuesday 20th November 2007, Funky Dragon was very happy to launch 'Our Rights, Our Story' to the world on a very special day - International Children's Rights Day.
After 18 months of hard work from everyone involved, members of the Steering Group stood up in front of a packed room at the Millennium Centre and delivered a fantastic presentation on both the 'Our Rights, Our Story' findings and the Children's Report, 'Why do People's Ages go up and not Down?'.
The media launch was held in conjunction with Save the Children who were launching the report 'Stop, Look, Listen: The road to realising children's rights in Wales' - which was published by Save the Children and the UNCRC Monitoring Group and is Wales' Non-Governmental Organsation (NGO) Alternative Report being sent to the United Nations. You can download a copy of this report at the bottom of the page.
The event was chaired by Richard Powell (Head of Global Child Protection) and we had guest speakers Keith Towler (Programme Director for Save the Children Wales & Chair of the UNCRC Monitoring Group), Jane Hutt (Minister for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills) and Maria Battle (Acting Children's Commissioner).
Funky Dragon has consulted with over 12,000 young people aged 11-18 in Wales and over 2,000 children aged 7-10 in Wales to make sure that the reports are full of correct information, reflecting how children and young people are claiming their rights in Wales.
The report has been hailed as a success and a brilliant insight on the issues covered - education, participation, information, health and specific interest. The report will now be taken to Geenva by the steering group and delivered to the United Nations personally!
You can download the report from the right of the page, or if you would like a hard copy or more information, please ring the Funky Dragon office on 01792 450 000.
