What is pupil participation?
Pupil participation is about all the different ways you can get your voice heard and take part in making decisions in your school. This might be about having an active school council, but this is only one away of taking part.
Pupil participation should happen in lots of ways in your school.
Some of these might be:
- Saying what you think about what and the way you learn;
- Being asked your views through consultations, questionnaires, circle-time, focus groups, suggestion boxes;
- Groups such as the school council, eco-committee, healthy schools and peer mentors (‘Buddies’);
- Making sure that everyone has a chance to get involved;
- Using the National Participation Standards.
There is a lot of talk in Wales about how we can make schools better. . Pupils have a part to play in this conversation too. For ideas about how you can get involved, click on the ‘Pupil Version of SEF’ link on the right.
