UNCRC

Pupils at Waunarlywdd Primary SchoolThe United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) is an international agreement that 192 countries worldwide, including the United Kingdom, have signed up to. The Convention gives all children and young people under the age of 18 years old their own set of rights or “articles”.

The Welsh Government takes the UNCRC very seriously. This is shown by the way the Welsh Government involves children and young people in making policies, and in planning and developing services. Young people have also been involved in important appointments – such as the Children’s Commissioner for Wales.

In this section of the site you can download a UNCRC Toolkit and a Quiz to help you understand the UNCRC and how it affects you.

To see a rap that a group of young people in the Vale of Glamorgan created on the UNCRC, visit the children and young people's participation page.

You can also find out more about how young people from Wales reported to the UN on the state of children’s rights in Wales in 2007 on the Funky Dragon website.

Children in Llangyfelach Primary School in Swansea have written a poem and made a film about what the UNCRC means to children in practice. We apologise that these materials are available in English only.
